Athlete, scholar, and entrepreneur, from Jakarta to Toledo to Oxford, Ohio.

Who he is
Julian "Avi" Hanusz is a freshman at Miami University and a graduate of Ottawa Hills High School in Toledo, Ohio, where he was known for his leadership, drive, and balance of academics, athletics, and entrepreneurship.
Known by his childhood nickname (from his middle name, Avanindra), Avi is a dual U.S. and Indonesian citizen who spent his early childhood in Jakarta. He moved to America at eight years old and embraced every opportunity that came with starting over: academically, athletically, and personally.

Academics and athletics
Avi graduated cum laude with a 3.9 GPA in a demanding honors and AP course load while leading four varsity teams: soccer, golf, basketball, and lacrosse. He was known for setting high standards, mentoring younger players, and leading by example.

Watch
OH Report's High School Soccer broadcast named Avi its MVP for Ottawa Hills against Mansfield Christian and talked with him after the match.
Wearing number 10 for the Green Bears, Avi was a forward and a team leader on the soccer field as well as on the basketball court.
Scholarship
Avi was named a Chick Evans Scholar, one of the most prestigious caddie scholarships in the United States, awarded for excellence in academics, leadership, and character.
It reflects years at The Inverness Club, one of the top golf courses in the country, where he has caddied since his freshman year of high school, building professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate with anyone.

Entrepreneurship
In 2025, Avi co-founded Harry's Candy Company, a family-run maker of premium freeze-dried candy in Toledo. As Marketing Director he runs sales, branding, and customer relationships.
The company has grown from a small startup into a recognized regional brand carried in stores and markets across northwest Ohio, and it prevailed in litigation against the Ohio Department of Agriculture along the way.

Service
Avi helped lead Caddies Against Cancer, a fundraising initiative supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and volunteers with Teen P.E.P., promoting healthy relationships and responsible decision-making among students.
Whether mentoring younger athletes or raising money for a cause, he believes leadership is defined by service to others.
Now
Avi is currently a freshman at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he plans to major in Finance. He is building on his entrepreneurial and leadership experience while studying business, financial markets, and management, and pursuing internships and campus leadership opportunities.
For Avi, success is measured not just in goals scored or sales made, but in honoring the opportunities he has been given. From Jakarta to Toledo, from student to entrepreneur, his story shows what is possible when determination meets purpose.
